Tired but eager, 15 blind children had just completed the trek of a lifetime and were now standing where history was made—at the home of Helen Keller, in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

They came to this place last summer as part of a national bike riding program for the blind, sponsored by Christian Record Services, the Adventist ministry to the blind and visually impaired. Their ride was a statement about what a blind person can do when they put their minds to it. “Sore muscles & physical limitations,” they said, “won’t stand in our way.”

For the previous three days they had been riding tandem bikes with their guides over 150 miles of highway, riding up hills and down slopes on the Natchez Trace and camping overnight in tents.

They came on the bike ride for many reasons— to prove to themselves and others that blind people can accomplish big goals— to let people everywhere know about good health and exercise. “We want to tell everyone that exercise and good food are important for good health,” explained 13-year-old Ashley, a student at Tennessee School of the Blind. “We want everyone to know that blind kids can do anything if they try.”

What they got was much more than a physical challenge, as important as that was. They got a spiritual challenge as well, from camp pastors, fellow bike riders and counselors. "I know now that Jesus’ love is for everyone,” Jamie, a 15-year-old explained.

This bike ride, and 25 other camping experiences, are just a few ways Christian Record Services shares Christ’s love with over 50 million blind people around the world. They enjoy spiritual books, magazines on tape, in large print, and in braille through the lending library and web site. Your gift, will impact the lives of people who need to know Jesus.
