Appeal: Local Church Budget
BE KIND ONE TO ANOTHER

The great nineteenth-century British industrialist Thomas Beecham found a most unusual way to show his appreciation. His fortune was built on selling pills with an interesting slogan, Worth a guinea a box.” The slogan, according to his history, was suggested by a satisfied customer.

To show his appreciation to the Oxfordshire village where he had been a
lowly shepherd many years before, he would send free samples with a
unexpected surprise at the bottom of each package - an English guinea.

Many years ago Ellen White visited a small congregation where the members had become critical of each other. During the night she had a dream in which she saw a stranger enter a meeting at this particular church and sit quietly in the shadows listening to what was being said. At the end of the meeting the stranger rose to speak and it soon became evident that the stranger was none other than Jesus Christ. He gently reproved the congregation for their hurtful words and acts.

“What is pure religion? Christ has told us that pure religion is the exercise of pity, sympathy, and love in the home, in the church, and in the world. This is the kind of religion to teach to the children, and is the genuine article.” (Review & Herald, November 12, 1895)

Kindness knows no boundaries and carries its own reward. How fast the Lord’s work would be accomplished not just by financial gifts but by the practice of genuine Christian love and kindness.

Appeal text: “Above all else, love each other genuinely. Love for your brothers and sisters in the faith covers many sins.” [I Peter 4:8 TCW]
